There is nothing worse than waiting for a train to find out it has been cancelled. It was this reason that Connex Melbourne approached Platypus almost 10 years ago to design and develop an application that allowed the dissemination of delay, disruption and cancellation notifications via SMS. So Connex SMS Updates was born.

A free service offered by Connex, commuters go on to the website and configure their travel portfolio including key pieces of information such as start and stop stations and times of the day that they travel. Metrol, central command, then input the delay, disruption and cancellation information into the Platypus application. The database engine searches to see who is registered to travel during that window and sends out an SMS to let them know. The customer service benefits have been significant and the commuters satisfaction levels obvious.

Another product in place is a premium SMS service where commuters can SMS in short station codes and be sent the next 5 train times direct from the Connex timetable database. This can even be done for scheduled travel up to a month in advance.
